Ke$ha or Kesha Rose Sebert was born in Los Angeles, but that isn’t where she grew up and got her music start. When she was four, her mother moved her to Nashville. The reason why they moved to Nashville is because her mother was a songwriter and needed to get there to write songs and get her name out. So, Ke$ha does come from a musical background. Her mother, who is Pebe Sebert actually wrote a song called “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You” which was redone by Dolly Parton a few years after the original version came out.
But, for Ke$ha, she always knew that she wanted to be a performer and a songwriter, it was in her blood. When she graduated high school, she actually returned to Los Angeles hoping to get her own music career started and follow in the footsteps of her mother. But, her mother really didn’t want her to go, in fact, Ke$ha was enrolled in Columbia where she was going to study psychology when she changed her mind. To get her started, when she actually returned to Los Angeles, she met Dr. Luke who is the mastermind behind Kelly Clarkston’s hit single “Since U Been Gone” and a few others.
Dr. Luke liked her and saw a talent there. To start, as with most people in the music industry, she started out as a person that was writing songs. She wrote the Veronica’s song “This Love” and got another start when she did background vocals for a Britney Spears song. The real big break in her career, however, came when Dr. Luke was able to get her onto the writing team for the Flo Rida hit “Right Round” where she was able to collaborate with a lot of different people to get this hit out to the fans.
After she was done with that, RCA, the recording label, saw some definite talent in her and signed her. From there, she started working with Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Benny Blanco to put out her singles and her album. This was where it all started, and these gentlemen, combined with her talent and skill were able to help her get her music career off the ground and step out of the shadows of song writing so that she would be able to become the star that she deserved to be.
After she was signed to RCA, she started working closely with her team to put out a quality album. Her first single was released in October 2009, although it didn’t warm up until into 2010. That single, as everyone remembers was “Tik Tok”. Shortly after that, her debut album hit the charts and became something that people that enjoyed Pop music were snapping up everywhere. After a worldwide tour, numerous appearances on talk shows, and as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, it was pretty obvious that Ke$ha was here to stay and that the world will soon be witnessing a lot more of her talent.
